About this lesson

The March Update brings a range of layout tool improvements and fixes. Sorting layers and images in Stacks feels much smoother, and you can now move items freely between Stacks. When you do, the original layout no longer collapses and instead displays a fixed placeholder. Moving images within any Stack or Grid is also noticeably faster. 0:00Yo, my name is Benjamin and in the March 0:03update, we've improved some layout 0:05features in Framer. So, let me quickly 0:08show you. First, we've simplified the 0:11row and column tools into a single stack 0:14tool, making it named the same across 0:16the product and hopefully a bit easier 0:18to recognize for people new to it.0:21[music] Next, we've invested a lot in 0:24stack sorting with the goal of making it 0:27feel more stable and reliable. Here,0:30there's three notable updates. Dragging 0:33images on the canvas in general will 0:35feel much less [music] jumpy. Sorting 0:38any layer in a stack will also feel 0:40better because we no longer collapse the 0:43layout from which you drag. [music]0:44Instead, a stable placeholder is 0:47rendered. And finally, you can now drag 0:50any layer from any stack to any other 0:53stack. No more copy and pasting 0:55required. As previously, this was only 0:57supported within the parent stack of 1:00your selected layer. I'll quickly undo 1:02this so we can look at the final new 1:04thing in this update, which is unlocking 1:07bento grid layouts in [music] framer.1:10Here in our demo project, we have such a 1:13bento grid, and it's a pretty fun setup.1:17If we open the advanced layout settings 1:19of our grid, we can see that the cell 1:22height here is set to fill. The height 1:25of the grid itself is set to fit 1:27content. [music] And then each card also 1:30has height set to fill. So we can use 1:33the rows property to control its 1:36effective [music] height. This lets us 1:38design bento grids like these where the 1:41cards ultimately always line up while 1:44also supporting dynamic contents within.1:47So if we change the contents within any 1:49of these [music] cards, the height will 1:52adapt.
