About this lesson

The March Update brings a range of layout tool improvements and fixes. Sorting layers and images in Stacks feels much smoother, and you can now move items freely between Stacks. When you do, the original layout no longer collapses and instead displays a fixed placeholder. Moving images within any Stack or Grid is also noticeably faster. Grid tools have seen several updates as well and now include support for Bento layouts. https://framer.com/updates/march-update-2026

0:00Yo, my name is Benjamin and in the March0:03update, we've improved some layout0:05features in Framer. So, let me quickly0:08show you. First, we've simplified the0:11row and column tools into a single stack0:14tool, making it named the same across0:16the product and hopefully a bit easier0:18to recognize for people new to it.0:21[music] Next, we've invested a lot in0:24stack sorting with the goal of making it0:27feel more stable and reliable. Here,0:30there's three notable updates. Dragging0:33images on the canvas in general will0:35feel much less [music] jumpy. Sorting0:38any layer in a stack will also feel0:40better because we no longer collapse the0:43layout from which you drag. [music]0:44Instead, a stable placeholder is0:47rendered. And finally, you can now drag0:50any layer from any stack to any other0:53stack. No more copy and pasting0:55required. As previously, this was only0:57supported within the parent stack of1:00your selected layer. I'll quickly undo1:02this so we can look at the final new1:04thing in this update, which is unlocking1:07bento grid layouts in [music] framer.1:10Here in our demo project, we have such a1:13bento grid, and it's a pretty fun setup.1:17If we open the advanced layout settings1:19of our grid, we can see that the cell1:22height here is set to fill. The height1:25of the grid itself is set to fit1:27content. [music] And then each card also1:30has height set to fill. So we can use1:33the rows property to control its1:36effective [music] height. This lets us1:38design bento grids like these where the1:41cards ultimately always line up while1:44also supporting dynamic contents within.1:47So if we change the contents within any1:49of these [music] cards, the height will1:52adapt. It's kind of a fun mix of using1:54both fit and fill [music] in a single1:58layout. That's it for this video. Thank2:01you for watching and stay tuned for more2:04updates coming soon.
