About this lesson

This release adds new properties to Link Styles, Text Layers, and Text Styles: Fill, Radius, and Padding. Combined, these allow you to make Links that feel like buttons, without needing any wrapping Frames or Stacks, nor Components. We’ve also redesigned the Link Styles UI in the process, making it feel more approachable while actually containing more properties for each interactive state. Plus, these new properties also work on any Text Selection, even if you have Text Styles applied, letting you design highlights for copy or headings. We think you’ll love it.

0:00Yo, my name is Benjamin and this is text 0:03highlighting in Framer. We're adding new 0:07properties to text layers and links.0:10I'll start by creating a new link style.0:12And as you can see, we have redesigned 0:14the link style interface here as well,0:17making it feel a lot simpler while 0:19actually including many more properties.0:22Our new additions include fill, radius,0:26and batting. And all of these are also 0:29now available on the hover or the 0:31current states. In practice, these new 0:34properties allow you to design links 0:36that are much more flexible without 0:38needing any additional layers like a 0:41wrapping frame or stack. It even means 0:44you can often times skip the component 0:47entirely. As you can see, these little 0:50buttons are just text layers with link 0:53styles applied. We have some fill,0:55radius, and padding. a transition and a 0:58gentle hover state. And if we open up 1:02the layer panel here, you can see these 1:05are just single layers, no wrapping 1:08elements. So links in framer got even 1:11more powerful. These new properties are 1:14also available for normal text layers,1:17allowing you to create inline text 1:19highlights. I'll select two words and 1:22then give them a unique color. I can 1:24then also click on text and add the new 1:27fill property to add a background to our 1:31highlight. And just like that, we have 1:33designed a custom highlight without 1:36needing any additional layers. This 1:39release lets you do more with your text 1:41in Framer.
